10,000 people on the internet gather to write a single story.

Each person contributes exactly one word. When the story reaches 10,000 words, it will become a published book called Everybody Wrote a Word — credited to everyone who participated.

How it Works

Read the story

Or don't, that might make it more interesting.

Add your word

Contribute exactly one word to continue the story. Make it count!

Become part of history

When we hit 10,000 words, the story becomes a real book—with your name in it!

Common questions, answered.

Why just one word?

One word is low pressure. One word forces collaboration. And, one word lets thousands of people leave a tiny mark on the same thing.

It might be beautiful, or it might (probably will) be nonsense. The only way to find out is if everyone starts writing!

What happens if multiple people want to write at the same time?

If multiple people are waiting to write, there will be a live queue, first come first serve. When it's your turn, you get a short window to submit your word.

How will I be credited?

If you add a word, you can choose a name to be credited under or stay anonymous. If you choose a name, it will be shown on the contributors page and credited in the final book.

When will the book be completed?

As soon as it hits the final word count! The sooner people find the site and contribute, the sooner the book gets published, so please share it around. If everyone shares it with just three people, we'll be finished in no time!
